We can teach you how to repair 25% of all of your machinery problems.

WHY I FOUNDED THE FIXIT-ACADEMY

Hello,

My name is Bruce Grossman, I’m a veteran mechanic and technical writer for the National Clothesline, DLI's Fabricare Magazine, and the Korean Cleaner's Monthly. Perhaps you’ve read my articles or attended one of my recent workshops.

I’ve made a study of thousands of my service calls over the years and discovered about 25% of the repairs you'll require in the everyday operation of your plant are easy, Very doable when taught the proper combination of methods, parts, and tools. For this reason, I founded the FIXIT-ACADEMY to teach even the most “tool-challenged” individual how to safely and expeditiously make these otherwise expensive repairs themselves.

just some of the benefits

  1. NO WAITING FOR A MECHANIC
  2. REDUCED UTILITY COSTS
  3. REDUCED REPAIR COSTS
  4. HAPPIER EMPLOYEES
  5. SATISFACTION OF A JOB WELL DONE

examples of "hands-on" skills being taught in our workshops

replacing steam trap internal parts

  • One of the most easily repaired, often ignored, yet most costly maintenance issues is steam trap failure.  Steam traps wear out and often fail in the open position wasting huge amounts of steam and, consequently, fuel.  The steam system workshop includes instructions on how simple it is to replace traps without expensive and risky pipefitting.

  • Here's another short video on replacing the working parts of an Armstrong steam trap.

"tricks of the trade"

  • During these workshops, many handy, time and money-saving techniques for repairing and rebuilding valves, motors, pumps, etc., will be presented. This short video demonstrates how to create valve packing from a length of Teflon tape.

  • Every workshop provides study guides covering all the points covered during classroom instruction. These are used in the field as instructions.

WORKSHOP PLANNING AND PRESENTATION

How we go about teaching:

1. Organize convenient workshops, either in your local area or in Las Vegas. The subject matter being taught, the cost of the workshop, the return on investment (in most cases implementing the knowledge gained just once or twice would pay for the workshop), and the proposed date and time will, of course, be clearly stated.

2. Usually, the methods of instruction will comprise two phases:
     a. An introduction to the subject matter incorporating why it’s important, followed by what tools, supplies, and parts that will be required for the repair. This would occur during the first session entailing classroom time using a PowerPoint-type presentation, likely incorporating video, coupled with hands-on work using mock-ups. This allows you to build confidence by “getting a feel” for the repair technique and using the proper tools.
     b. The second phase would be performed in a plant involving an actual repair. This helps introduce you to what “pitfalls” you may have to confront in a real-life situation.
The timing of the most workshops would be on a Saturday and Sunday, ending in the early afternoon on Sunday. This is entirely flexible; I’d be considering the most manageable timing for the majority of students.
There will be a printed study guide, video of the repairs, and a list of suppliers for the tool, parts and materials used during the workshop and will be provided to every atendee for future use in the field.
